Known for producing the psychoactive effects of cannabis, Delta-9 THC is one of the most popular and abundant cannabinoids.
Even if you know close to nothing about cannabis, you’re still probably aware of Delta-9 THC and its famous psychoactive effects.
Those couched stoners in your favorite rom-com? They were enjoying the effects of Delta-9 THC. The joint your older cousin brought to Thanksgiving? Full of Delta-9 THC. The edibles you tried in Colorado? Those had Delta-9 THC.
The most famous cannabinoid in cannabis is now legal federally – although some states regulate it more heavily than others. Read on to learn more about Delta-9 THC and in what circumstances it’s actually legal.
Is Delta-9 THC Legal?
It depends. Since marijuana is a Schedule I federally illegal substance, Delta-9 THC is federally illegal when it is derived from marijuana. But since the Farm Bill of 2018 federally legalized hemp, Delta-9 THC is legal when it is derived from hemp and the hemp product contains less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC by weight.
In fact, this Delta-9 THC limit of 0.3% by weight is what determines whether something is a marijuana product or a hemp product. If a product contains more than 0.3% Delta-9 THC, it is, by definition, a marijuana product that is federally illegal. If it contains less than 0.3% Delta-9 THC, it is, by definition, a hemp product and federally legal.
Advances in cannabis farming and extraction have made hemp-derived Delta-9 much more affordable and accessible. Previously, only residents of the 18 states that have legalized recreational marijuana and the 37 states that have legalized medical marijuana could enjoy the wellness and relaxation benefits of Delta-9 THC. Now people all across the country can do so.
Delta-9 THC Effects
Whether you’re looking for a good time or wellness benefits, Delta-9 THC has many positive effects to offer. This powerful cannabinoid can produce euphoria, relaxation, and experience enhancement.
Delta-9 THC is often used to treat various medical ailments. Among other benefits, it can improve the quality of your sleep, reduce nausea, enhance mental well-being, stimulate your appetite, and reduce pain.
Delta-9 can also have some negative side effects, like causing paranoia or anxiety. To counteract this possibility, use Delta-9 THC products that also contain CBD. CBD reduces the negative side effects of THC, keeping you calm and relaxed. Legal THC Gummies Delta-8 THC Versus Delta-9 THC
A cannabinoid that has recently been getting more attention is Delta-8 THC. Its effects are almost identical to those of Delta-9 THC. But it is milder, being approximately two-thirds as potent as Delta-9. This makes Delta-8 THC gummies a great alternative if you find the effects of Delta-9 THC to be too intense.
Although both of these cannabinoids were legalized to an extent by the 2018 Farm Bill, they are still quite different legally speaking. Delta-9 THC is federally legal only in quantities below 0.3%. But Delta-8 THC is federally legal in all quantities.
Who Can Buy Delta-9 THC?
